This week we are delighted to announced our new speakers at our 2024 Upside European Sports Tech Summit in Paris. We have a lot more speakers (teams, leagues, vendors, VCs, team owners, athletes) across various leagues (Laliga, Premier League, Ligue 1, Calcio, NBA, Bundesliga, national rugby teams, pro tennis..) to be announced.
New speakers:
Dr Nessan Costello is a Senior accredited sport nutritionist and Senior Lecturer in Sport & Exercise Nutrition at Leeds Beckett University. Nessan consults for Chelsea Football Club as first team nutritionist. He has published numerous studies, quantifying energy expenditure, water turnover, and energy balance in athletes. Nessan also supervises several applied research projects across the English Premier League, English Football League Championship, international rugby union, Premiership Rugby, Betfred Super League, and Netball Super League.ย
Brian Hecker enters his 21st season with the Miami Heat (NBA) and his third as Senior Director Of Basketball Analytics And Innovation. Hecker oversees the basketball analytics team, including an infrastructure he helped design in order to streamline analytics as well as the latest tracking performance technologies in order to monitor the development of players. Hecker joined the organization in November of 2003 as the HEATโs Scouting Information Coordinator before being elevated to Scout in 2008. Three years later he was promoted to Director of Basketball Information and Technology/Scout, and in advance of the 2014-15 season he was named Director of Basketball Information and Technology/Player Development Coach. He then spent the next three seasons as the Director of Basketball Analytics and Performance Technology.
Prior to joining the HEAT, Hecker spent 11 seasons at the collegiate level, nine of which were as an assistant coach. Coaching stops included the University of Houston (2000-03) and the University of Wisconsin (1994-00) where he was a member of former HEAT coach Stan Van Gundyโs staff in 1994-95. Hecker began his collegiate coaching career as an administrative assistant on Stu Jacksonโs staff at Wisconsin in 1992 and was promoted to assistant coach in 1994. During his 11 seasons on the collegiate level he helped guide his teams to seven postseason appearances (4-NCAA, 3-NIT), including the 2000 NCAA Final Four while an assistant under Head Coach Dick Bennett with the Badgers.
A 1990 graduate of Indiana University, Hecker began his coaching career at his alma mater, Nicolet High School, in Milwaukee during the 1991-92 season. The Milwaukee native has three children, Jessica, Benjamin and Thomas, and resides in Miami. Dr Julien Louis is Associate Professor in Nutrition and Exercise Physiology at Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) where he has teaching and research duties. Julien is the Programme Leader for the MSc in Sport Nutrition at LJMU. Julien is also Associate Researcher at the French Institute of Sport, Expertise and Performance (INSEP, Paris), and a Fellow of the European College of Sport Science. Julien is the author of over 100 scientific publications in the field of sport sciences and he is a member of the Editorial Board of a number of scientific journals including the European Journal of Sport Science, Journal of Sport Sciences, Frontiers in Sports and Active Living, and Nutrients. Julien's research focuses on training, nutrition and recovery strategies for optimising sport performance, with an emphasis on elite sport. Julien is also interested in the effects of ageing on sport performance with masters athletes at the centre of his research. In parallel to his academic roles, Julien regularly works as Nutritionist in Elite sport. He is the current performance Nutritionist of Decathlon AG2R professional cycling team and Paris FC. Julien is also a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of Parma Calcio 1913 FC. Previous appointments include Liverpool Football Club, Lille Football Club, the French Football Federation, and many Olympic sports.
Dr Christy Fernandez-Cull, PhD, is the CEO ofย DaVinci Wearables, an AI health and wellness platform thatย consists of a mobile app integrating data from smart watches and rings, a data platform, and smart garments that work together to provide AI-driven personalized coaching and sports-specific actionable insightsย for female athletes and teams.
Pawel Osterreicher is the CEO & Co-Founder of ReSpo.Vision. Pawel is a senior tech executive who previously held the position of Chief Revenue Officer and Board Member of a leading European AI pure-play boutique:deepsense.ai. Before that, Pawel gained business experience in The Boston Consulting Group where he has worked for 7 years.
