βππ EXCLUSIVE: Introducing the New Upside Tech Scouting Platform for Teams, Vendors & VCs.
Dear colleagues,
Today we are pleased to announce a new major initiative, the Upside Tech Scouting platform, the worldβs first platform providing granular anonymized team data on specific teams (NBA, NFL, MLB, NCAA, Premier League, Laliga, Ligue 1, Bundesliga, national teams, Olympic teams, pro rugby, pro tennis..). For each team profile, users can see critical information provided by teams such as their annual sports performance budget, the vendor(s) that they are currently using, their rating per vendors and the price range that they are paying for each vendor. Now keep in mind that each team profile has been anonymized as we take data privacy of teams very seriously.
We believe that our new Upside tech scouting platform platform brings great value to the pro teams, leagues, vendors and the sports tech investment community (VC, angels). This is based on our 10 years of experience working with pro teams, vendors, and the feedback that we received from teams and vendors.

How does the Upside tech scouting platform works?
Here is a video explaining how the platform works with video testimonials from teams (NBA, MLS, Premier league..) and vendors.
As illustrated below, users can search for team profiles in specific leagues (NBA, NFL, MLB, NCAA, MLB, Premier League, pro rugby, pro tennis..), sports types (soccer, hockey, basketball, baseballβ¦), geographical area, and budget size. For each team profile users can see what their annual sports performance budget is, which vendors they are currently using, how they rated those vendors and the price range that they are paying for each technologies.
As we mentioned earlier, each team profile has been anonymized as we take data privacy of teams very seriously. This is why we only show the league logo (NBA, MLB, NFL, NCAA..) under each team profile. We do not show the specific team logo under each team profile.
Users of the new Upside scouting platform can also search for team using specific vendors in specific categories (AMS, GPS, HR, Communication tools, compression boots, AI based injury risk reduction tools, electric massagers, cooling/heating therapy, etc.)
Users of the platform can also search for vendor profiles with critical data across 25 product categories (AMS, GPS, HR, Hydration assessment, AI based injury reduction tools, Thermography, electric massagers, and more).
Why did we decide to build the upside Tech Scouting platform?
We decided to launch the Upside tech scouting platform to help address the current challenges faced by teams, vendors and VCs/investors:
Current challenges faced by practitioners (Head athletic trainers, head of performance, sports scientists) of teams:
The Human Performance vertical is in its nascency, but team needs are urgent.
Practitioners of teams still purchase technologies based on a variety of resources such as feedback from the vendors or select feedback, opinions and evaluations from colleagues in other teams that have used similar technologies.
There is no objective data to help teams make informed purchase decisions.
The room for mistake is small. Teams have to pick the right technologies that meet their needs and budget restrictions.
Athlete performance and injury prevention is extremely valuable and costly, respectively, to teams.
Current challenges faced by sports tech vendors:
It is challenging for vendors to break into the world of elite sports which is a very βcloseβ ecosystem.
There is also a long sales cycle in pro sports which makes it challenging for sports tech vendors.
Current challenges faced by VCs/investors:
There are 4k-5k sports tech startups out there which makes it hard for VCs and investors to pick and find the next startup unicorn.
There are no effective due diligence tools out there for VCs and investors to pick the next startup unicorn.
What are the benefits for teams, vendors and VCs to use our new Upside tech scouting platform?
Our new Upside tech scouting platform can benefits the teams, vendors and VCs in various ways:
More efficient tech scouting: Teams can not only rely on feedback from their peers (other teams) but now they have access to unbiased objective data from teams on specific vendors before making a buying decision. For teams, the Upside tech scouting platform provides an insurance policy or an impartial test drive for teams before they make a purchase.
Time saving and cost savings for teams: Teams can save a lot of time and money by getting unique information on specific vendors. They can also see what other teams are using across various leagues, sports and countries.
More sales leads for vendors: Vendors have the ability through the platform to see what teams are currently using, and which teams and leagues are more likely to be interested on their technologies based on a variety of factors (budget size, technologies currently used already). Vendors also have the ability to connect with teams through the platform. Now keep in mind that, just like on other platforms like LinkedIn, it is up to the teams to accept the request from vendors.
Better and more efficient due diligence tool for VCs and investors to pick the next startup unicorn: VCs and investors can use the Upside tech scouting platform to do their due diligence on specific vendors or even find potential new investment opportunities.
What is the platform based on? Objective survey data from pro teams.
The Upside gathered βanonymizedβ survey data from practitioners of teams from various leagues: NBA, NFL, MLB, MLS, Premier League, Laliga, Series A, Ligue, 1, NCAA, Pro rugby/Top 14, AFL, NRL, Pro tennis, Olympic teams, national teams, and others). Teams assessed the performance of key vendors across various product categories.
